SEC asks KKR about sovereign wealth clients

The SEC has requested information from private equity firm KKR concerning “its investors and clients that are sovereign wealth funds and certain services provided by KKR,” according to a 10-K filing by the company earlier this month.

It is unclear whether the inquiry is tied to an SEC investigation launched in January into improper payments made by financial services institutions to sovereign wealth funds.

KKR spokeswoman Kristi Huller declined comment.

The SEC inquiry letters were sent to several U.S. financial services companies on an investigation focusing on compliance with the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act of 1977.

KKR said in the 10-K filing, filed earlier this month, that it is cooperating with the SEC's investigation.

SEC spokesman Kevin Callahan could not immediately be reached for comment.
